Heart Rate Variability

Heart Rate Variability (HRV) is measured by a technology developed by the Institute of HeartMath called emWavePC. During this assessment the patient wears an electrode on a single finger while information is gathered from the body and measured with respect to the variability of their heart rate. This information provides important feedback regarding how orderly or coherently their heart and brain are communicating with one another.

Greater coherence suggests more efficient cortical brain activity and an inhibition of the stress response. When the brain is working in this more coherent state we become more resourceful and more resilient. We become more resourceful psychologically, emotionally, and even biochemically. Greater coherence suggests the potential for positively influencing the activity of genes that guide cellular healing. Most importantly, greater coherence activates the pre-frontal cortex that allows our perception to be free of past negative conditioning.

While this HRV technology is an exciting tool for evaluating heart and brain coherence, even more exciting and rewarding is the process of somatic focusing that is proven to increase our coherence scores through training. The implication here is that we can learn through systematic practice how to reprogram ourselves so that we become more resourceful across the board. A recent study performed by the Institute of HeartMath showed that daily practice of a coherence enhancing technique could significantly influence the balancing of adrenal hormones in as little time as one month.

This is important new science that is tremendously empowering to the individual who is willing to take more responsibility for his or her own healing and wholeness. When our system regains integrity from the inside out we begin to address the root causes of our various mindbody symptoms and diseases and find that we need significantly less external intervention.
