Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral Therapy is a healing method that uses light pressure on the head and along the spinal column. Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is effective in releasing restrictions in the craniosacral system and improving the function of the central nervous system. It is safe, non-invasive and restorative.
Over 100 years ago Dr. Sutherland discovered the subtle movement of the cranial bones is associated with a network of interrelated tissues and fluids at the core of the body; including the cerebral spinal fluid, the central nervous system, the membranes that surround the central nervous system and the sacrum. Dr. Sutherland realized the importance of the cerebral spinal fluid in helping disseminate an essential ordering principle in the body. This ordering principle acts as a blueprint for health that is present from the time of early embryonic development and is the fundamental factor that maintains balance of our form and function.
Everyone can benefit from craniosacral therapy because it builds health in the brain and spinal system. It is effective in assisting the prevention of chronic conditions, as well as injuries, alleviating imbalances caused by trauma or head injuries, including TMJ. It is also beneficial for relieving symptoms of anxiety or depression and for healing of trauma or abuse.
The craniosacral therapist develops a trusting relationship with the client whereby the client’s inner physician is free to make corrections and free up the client for healing. John Upledger, D. O. has expanded on Dr. Sutherland’s findings and has created a training program for health professionals to learn these healing techniques in order to assist their clients with healing.
